A Renovation with Heart: Decora Employees Transformed the Daily Lives of Children at a Residential Childcare Facility in Piła

Employees of Decora S.A., a company based in the Wielkopolska region, replaced the flooring. The rooms had previously been repainted and the walls refreshed to make the children’s rooms and the staff room more functional, durable and welcoming. New furniture was installed in five rooms.

A renovation designed to last

Decora selected the residential childcare facility in Piła because it needed support in renovating the everyday living spaces used by children and young people. The aim was not merely to carry out renovation work, but to create interiors where it would be easier to rest, study and develop a sense of security.

“A home is more than an address and four walls. It is a place where you can rest, do your homework, talk to someone close and simply feel safe. We wanted to use what we know best to create better everyday living conditions for children and young people. There is also a natural sense of pride involved. Every day, we develop flooring, wall solutions and interior products, but it is in places like this that we can see most clearly why we do it. Our products were part of this project, but its greatest value came from the people who devoted their time, energy and skills to helping others,” says Artur Tomikowski, Marketing Director at Decora S.A.

The work covered eight children’s rooms and the staff room. The rooms were fitted with new vinyl flooring. The walls were repainted, while selected surfaces were given a distinctive finish using MODEE mineral wall panels. Furniture was also replaced in five rooms. Once again, Decora’s partners joined the initiative: UZIN prepared the subfloors for flooring installation free of charge, KAS-BUD supplied paints and painting accessories, and the local company Małachowski Building Materials Wholesaler from Piła also contributed to the project.

Uzin Utz is an international construction chemicals company that has been synonymous with experience and professionalism in flooring installation for four generations. KAS-BUD is a well-known and highly regarded building materials wholesaler based in Środa Wielkopolska.

“We are grateful to our partners for once again responding to our appeal and getting involved in helping the children,” adds Artur Tomikowski.

A team that acts together

Around 50 Decora employees took part in the renovation. Their expertise, organisational efficiency and readiness to act formed the foundation of the entire initiative. For many of them, it was also an opportunity to view their work from a different perspective, not through the lens of production, sales or marketing, but through the tangible change created in a place where someone lives every day.

“This is another social initiative in which we have become involved as a team. Each one shows that joint action can bring about real change, while also giving employees a strong sense of satisfaction, purpose and pride in what we can achieve together. This time, we also invited colleagues working in our structures outside Poland to take part. In this way, we combine support for those in need with strengthening relationships within an international team,” says Joanna Wojtaś, HR Director at Decora S.A.

It is worth noting that this is not Decora’s first employee volunteering initiative of this kind. Together with its employees, the company has already renovated a children’s home in Kórnik near Poznań, a school in Środa Wielkopolska and the Poranek care home.

“This is another edition of our social initiative, which is about much more than donating products. The most important thing is that we do it together. Each of us has a desire to help, and Decora creates an opportunity to turn that willingness into concrete action. I am proud that the products we work on every day can serve people in places like this. I am even more proud of those who devote an entire day and use their own hands to do something good. We want to provide real support, through our own work, in a place that genuinely needs it,” adds Artur Tomikowski.

For Decora employees, the project was an opportunity to use their skills outside their everyday working environment. For the children and young people living at the facility, it was a chance to gain a more comfortable space for studying, resting and everyday life.

More than renovated rooms

The management of the Residential Childcare Facility in Piła emphasises that the significance of this initiative goes beyond the renovation itself.

“Every change that improves the quality of life of the children and young people in our care is extremely important. They need a space where they can feel comfortable, safe and simply at ease. We appreciate that Decora contributed both its products and its people to this project. This support will stay with us for a long time, not only in the form of renovated interiors, but also through the experience of knowing that there are people and companies around us who are willing to act for others. Situations like this give me even more motivation to work for our residents, because everything we do is for them. I am glad that the group of people willing to support us continues to grow. The help we received gave our residents not only tangible support, but also faith in people and in a better tomorrow,” says Julita Kulczyńska, Director of the Residential Childcare Facility in Piła.

The renovation in Piła is part of Decora’s social responsibility activities, through which the company supports local communities by drawing on what it does every day: creating durable, functional and well-designed interiors. In this case, flooring, walls, furniture and the work of many people came together to deliver a tangible result: a better everyday life for children and young people.

About the Residential Childcare Facility in Piła

The Residential Childcare Facility in Piła has operated since 2008 and was established following the transformation of the Children’s Home in Kijaszkowo, founded on 12 November 1946. Its primary objective is to provide a safe, stable and caring home for children and young people who, for various reasons, cannot grow up with their families. The facility provides care for 14 residents and is located at 23 Rydygiera Street.
